The greatest contribution of India to the world is her material and spiritual science. No civilization, however old it be, has ever attained the level of sophistication, reached by the great ancient Siddhas, Yogis and Rishis of India in material and spiritual science.

What they had was not just intelligence but intuition. They could see, hear or feel beyond the realm of the five senses. They did not need telescopes, microscope or other scientific equipments to unravel the mysteries of the cosmos. SIDDHAS TEACHINGS
In the teachings of the Siddhas the human body is a temple of God. Man is a miniature representation of Paramatma or Supreme Intelligence. The purpose of life is to realize God.To manifest that realization in all planes of existence.

SIDDHAS MEDICINE
Using special salts as well as herbal formulae the Siddhas developed the unique science of rejuvenation, known as "kaya kalpa", which allowed them to prolong their lives until the long term effects of Kriya Kundalini Pranayama and similar yogic practices could complete the process of transformation, bringing about physical immortality.

Siddhas followed the ancient Guru- disciple apprenticeship method. They revealed their secrets to those students whom they felt could be trusted not to misuse the science. The science of Kaya kalpa was limited to those great sages. who were prepared for the uplifting of humanity. Ayurveda came much later as discipline.

SIDDHAS SECRET KNOWLEDGE
The Siddhas had vast knowledge of human anatomy. Their single-minded concentration was unique. It was was achieved with perfection. Their literature on medicine was extensive. The Siddhas were a close-knit community and preferred to preserve their knowledge. They reduced this knowledge to codes and symbols and their literature was steeped in mysticism. Only a Siddha can decode the writings of a Siddha. A beginner could not gain any appreciable knowledge without the Siddha accepting him as a student.

THE SCIENCE OF YOGA
Siddhas such as Thirumoolar, Agastyar, Boganathar, and many more had realized their capacity for experiencing and manifesting the Divine. This was not only limited to the spiritual plane of existence. The Cosmic Spirit would descend into the more lower and gross planes of consciousness, the intellectual, mental, and physical bodies. This for us is a limiting thought as our yogic parasites are not as intense as the Siddha. With progressive surrender of their being , their ego and their very lives the Divine would indeed transform them. With intense practices of various Kriyas, hatha and bhakti yoga, meditation, mantras and Kriya Kundalini Pranayama they merged with the Cosmic Spirit . This was race against time as the natural breakdown of cells, catabolism, had to be reversed to anabolism to prolong the extent of their age. They had to complete the Divine transformation. With Kriya Kundalini yoga and using specific herbal and mineral salts they were able to prolong their youth for the Ultimate transformation.

SIDDHANTHAM
The Universe was created out of a Cosmic Thought . No civilization be it the Inca, Atlantis or Egyptian had such a precise knowledge as the Siddhas. They were proficient in the science of longevity or deathless state, alchemy, medicine and physics.

From Limited Tools to Greater Resources

The following is an excerpt from the book Glimpses of Hindu Genius, by Ravi Kumar.
An interesting development is taking place these days: Many foreigners have taken inspirations from Bhagwad Gita and they are putting their efforts to promote it. Once upon a time we were fighting our battles all alone. But now with these educated and resourceful persons joining Hindu forces, our strength has increased. Every time someone utters uncharitable remarks on India or Hinduism, Francois Gautier (the French journalist based in India) gives a fitting reply. Some of our people have been sold out to the foreign media. But Francois Gautier is there. Koenraad Elst and Michel Danino are there. They are a special breed of people who have been inspired by Hindu philosophy and Hindu way of life.

Martin Brian Mulroney, Prime Minister of Canada, had another predicament. He said, “America is in cold war with Russia and all those who support Russia. India is a supporter of Russia and therefore, I, as a prime minister of Canada, a good friend of America, cannot go to India. Therefore I am not going to contest next election. For, as long as I am Prime minister, I cannot visit India”. When asked why he was so desperate to visit India, he replied, “Two of my sisters, Margaret and Katherine have become Hindus. They are serving their spiritual master in Himalayas. Margaret has already become Madhurima and she is a sanyasinee there. I asked her to return to Canada. But she said, “I have taken Diksha. I have to be here for some more years. Till I complete my course I cannot return. So it is better you come to Bharat”. I want to meet my sisters. I have to go to India. I cannot go there as prime minister of Canada and so I am refraining from contesting the next elections”.

Whenever Swami Chinmayananda went to Bahrain, the family members of Sheikh arranged special discourses exclusive for them in the palace premises. Mrs. Anwar Sadat of Egypt comes to Mount Abu, Bharat regularly to specialize on meditation and spread the same globally. World’s richest industrialists Alan Ford and Rockefeller are active members of ISKCON and have donated a large part of their wealth and properties for the propagation of Hinduism. Alan Ford got married in Sydney in a typical Hindu style sporting a white dhoti. His wedding video is being circulated to stress the point that happy married life is possible only by following Vedic principles.

On Feb 20, 2006, French First Lady Bernadette Chirac packed her bags and quietly left for Varanasi on a spiritual journey, while her husband was busy discussing the finer points of bilateral relations with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “She is spiritually inclined and greatly interested in Indian art and culture. Many Chinese disciples of Swami Satchitananda (himself a disciple of Swami Shivananda) in Hong Kong propagate yoga, meditation and Hindu bhajans to Chinese people. Over 10% people in US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand practice yog and meditation. Some churches have started teaching yog and meditation to attract followers. Similarly over 10% in the advanced countries are practicing vegetarianism which too has its origin in Bharat. Kellogg is a leading company that makes several vegetarian snacks and breakfast items. Hindi films are also attracting several thousand viewers around the world for their family values, cultural songs and dances and eye catching Indian dresses. Satya Sai Baba, Mata Amritananda, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Dalai Lama attract millions of western devotees to their philosophical discourses and bhajan sessions.

Eric Miller (emiller@sas.upenn.edu), is a Ph.D. candidate in Folklore in the University of Pennsylvania, USA. His dissertation is on Tamil children’s songs and games and language learning. To conduct research on the ancient Tamil epic Silappathikaram (the Epic of the Anklet), he walked in the footsteps of Kannagi – from Poompuhar to Madurai to the western mountains. Writing about Silappathikaram, Eric says that, “all of the political leaders of the world should know the story of Kannagi and of the Pandian king, Nedunchezhiyan. For the great hero of the Silappathikaram – after Kannagi - is the Pandian king. He punished himself when he realized he had made a mistake. Such self-punishment by leaders is a tradition in India – another example being the king Manuneedhi Cholan, who punished his son for killing a calf. This tradition is one reason that

India is a moral leader of the world.”

The Clay Sanskrit Library, an ambitious project, initiated by John Clay of USA, has introduced Classical Sanskrit literature to a wide international readership. This literature combines great beauty, enormous variety, and more than three thousand years of continuous Hindu history and development.

The new Clay Sanskrit Library makes everything easier: the Sanskrit text, written in familiar Roman letters, faces the English translation, and the convenient pocket size is both elegant and practical. Two dozens volumes of a projected 100 titles have been printed. These include 30 volumes devoted to Mahabharat, Kalidas’s great plays, Abhigyanashakuntala, or The Recognition of Shakuntala and Meghadoot or Messenger Poems, What ten young men did by Dandin, Love lyrics by Bharatrihari, Much ado about Religion by Jayanta Bhatta and The Emperor of the Sorcerers by Budhaswamin.

Forty-five leading scholars from ten countries are cooperating to produce fresh new translations that combine readability and accuracy. The first fifteen titles appeared in 2005, co-published by New York University Press and the JJC Foundation. Nine volumes were published in 2006. They will be followed by six more in 2007. Within the next four years the Clay Sanskrit Library will grow to about a hundred titles. The selection will focus on drama, poetry and novels, together with the famous epics Ramayan and Mahabharat.

The great German poet Goethe was struck by the beauty of Kalidasa’s verse and enthused, “if you want heaven and earth contained in one name, I say Shakuntala and all is spoken. Goethe put into his play, Faust, a prologue similar to the one in Shakuntala, in which a director and an actress mull over what to play for an audience of ‘sophisticated spectators’, before deciding on a play with a plot ‘devised by Kalidas’.

Besides Kalidasa, The CSL thus will bring to the English speaking reader many other delights like the earthy verse of Bharatrihari, the pungent satire of Jayanta Bhatta and the roving narratives of Dandin among others. All these writers belong properly not only to Indian literature but also to world literature.
So, from small tools we Hindus have acquired great resources. Now Hindus are asserting themselves more openly. Seventy years back, a prominent person of this country Motilal Nehru said, “I am a Hindu. I am ashamed of it. I am a Hindu because of the crimes committed by me in my previous birth. His illustrious son Jawaharlal Nehru said, “I am a Hindu by accident of birth.” But things have changed later. Whenever Indira Gandhi had a problem, she used to go to Tirupati temple or she would go rushing to Kanchipuram, to get the blessings of Paramacharya. Her son Rajiv Gandhi, released the election manifesto in the 1990s not from Delhi but from Ayodhya.

Lord Murugan Siddhar Bogar in Palani

There is a temple in south India, at Palani that is dedicated to Lord Muruga, the son of Lord Shiva. Bhoganāthar was entrusted by the siddhas to define the rituals for the worship of Lord Muruga. Armed with his deep knowledge of alchemy, Bogar created an indestructible idol of Lord Muruga, to last this Kali Yuga, using nine Poisonous substances or Nava Pashanams to withstand the continuous rituals of bathing (abhishekam). He fashioned it out of nine secret herbal and chemical ingredients, which made it harder than granite. The idol is still intact today and has defied scientists who attempted to analyse its contents. Even the strongest granite would not have withstood the test of time over these years with such continuous rituals.
Bogar being an adept of kayakalpa made the idol in such a way that when bathed with many substances, including milk, pancha­amirtam consisting of five fruits and honey so that traces of the substance are washed over into the ritual offerings in which it is bathed. When the devotee consumes these offerings he gets a kayakalpa treatment as well as a boost in his/ her spiritual progress.

There is yet another incident where Bogar transformed his physical body. . In his poem Bhogar Jñāna Sutra 8 Bogar describes how he overcame the limitations of his physical body by cosuming a kayakalpa preparation he made and lived for 12 000 years in China. The incident goes like this. Bogar, while in China had transmigrated into the body of a Chinese to facilitate teaching. This Chinese body had many limitations and hence he decided to overcome the limitations of the Chinese body using kaya kalpa herbs and thus extend his life to attain Swarupa Samadhi. He carefully made some kayakalpa tablets using thirty five different herbs. Once done, he took three of his best disciples and his faithful dog on top of a mountain. He first offered the tablet to the dog and the dog immediately fell over and looked dead. He then offered tablets to his disciples who hid it in their garments, except for Yu who immediately consumed it and fell over dead. Bogar also consumed the tablet and died immediately. The disciples stricken with fear and grief went down the mountain to collect firewood for cremation. On returning they couldn’t find the bodies but only a note left by Bogar which read “The kayakalpa tablets worked. After getting out of the trance in which I was, I restored the faithful dog and Yu, but you missed your chance for immortality.” This transformation allowed Bogar to feed on his Ojas or Sublimated spiritual energy and live for thousands of years. His body developed a lustrous golden colour and according to the words of Bogar, he lived in a world of gold.

Evil Eye - Drishti

Belief in the Evil eye that a human being can cause injury or death through a malevolent glance or stare is a very wide spread one. The concept of the evil eye predates all major religions of the world.

Very often, the harm inflicted by the evil eye was linked to the envy of the person doing the harm. The possession of an Evil eye was often thought to reside in persons, who displayed more general anti social tendencies, such as meanness, selfishness, and envy.



Your thoughts have energy, both positive and negative. It is a scientifically proven fact that food or water, when blessed, heals. Negative thoughts when directed towards someone has the ability to affect him. These negative thoughts directed at you that results in unfortunate outcomes for you, your family or your business is popularly known as ‘evil eye’. Evil-eye is a stream of negative energy that affects the person or object on which it is directed. The person under the influence of evil eye, is subject to waves of negative energies which results in illness, listlessness and failures which can’t be explained medically.

Accordingly, in many cultures, people were hesistant not to advertise their wealth, talents, or achievement, lest this should bring down retribution from the malevolent and envious eye. The new born babies, prominent men, and beautiful women were thought especially likely to attract evil eye.

Afflictions caused by Evil eye :
- body and face become pale
- sickly look
- loss of appetite or over appetite
- sleepy appearance
- in case of kids,, they use to cry without any reason
- restlessness and grinding of teeth
- vomiting
- sudden rise in body temperature and fever
sudden awakening from sleep
- un-cleanliness and prattling
- erratic and unpredictable behaviour

Physical characterictics of people having Evil eye :
- our heart beat misses one beat, if we go in contact with such person
- they will never cut their nails
- their vision will be sharp and keen
- they always talk less, would not reveal their personal matters, but try to extract information from others
- they appear to be profound
they are shameless and brazenfaced

In India, the Evil eye, called ''drishti'' is removed through ''aarathi''. The actual removal involves different means, as per subject involved. In case of removing human evil eye, a traditional Hindu ritual of holy flame (on a plate) is carried out, in which the plate is moved in a circular motion around the person's face so as absorb the evil effects. Sometimes, people will also be asked to spit into a handful of rock salt and black pepper kept in that plate, which are then thrown into fire.
If there is a lot of smoke, you were being ridiculous and no one evil-eyed you. If there is very less smoke (the kind of smoke causing the burning throat, burning eyes etc.), you were evil eyed and now it's all clear.

The Origin of Numbers - By Vijayakumar Alagapan

Indian Number System
Numbers are Ancient Indian's greatest gift to the world, without no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made. The Indian numbers are the ten digits (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9). They are descended from Indian numeral system by which a sequence of digits such as "401271" is read as a whole number was developed by Indian mathematicians. The Indian numerals were adopted by the Persian mathematicians in India, and passed on to the Arabs further west. The numerals were modified in shape as they were passed along, and developed their European shapes by the time they reached North Africa. From there they were transmitted to Europe in the Middle Ages. The use of Arabic numerals spread around the world through European trade, books and colonialism. Today they are the most common symbolic representation of numbers in the world.

As befitting their history, the digits (0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) are also known as Hindu or Hindu-Arabic numerals. The reason that they are more commonly known as "Arabic numerals" in Europe and the Americas is that they were introduced to Europe in the tenth century from Arabs of North Africa. There they were (and still are) the digits used by western Arabs from Libya to Morocco. Arabs, on the other hand, call the system "Hindu numerals", referring to their origin in India.

The decimal Hindu-Arabic numeral system was invented in India around 500 CE The system was revolutionary in that it included a zero and positional notation. It is considered an important milestone in the development of mathematics.

What Ancient Indian Did for Us :

1. India never invaded any country in her last 1000 years of history.

2. India invented the Number system 0 to 9.

3. The world's first University was established in Takshila in 700BC. More than 10,500 students from all over the world studied more than 60 subjects. The University of Nalanda built in the 4 th century BC was one of the greatest achievements of ancient India in the field of education.

4. Siddha Vaidya and Ayurveda is the earliest school of medicine known to humans.

5. Although western media portray modern images of India as poverty striken and underdeveloped through political corruption, India was once the richest empire on earth.

6. The art of navigation was born in the river Sindh 5000 years ago. The very word "Navigation" is derived from the Sanskrit word NAVGATIH.

7. The value of pi was first calculated by Budhayana, and he explained the concept of what is now known as the Pythagorean Theorem. British scholars have last year (1999) officially published that Budhayana's works dates to the 6th Century which is long before the European mathematicians.

8. Algebra, trigonometry and calculus came from India . Quadratic equations were by Sridharacharya in the 11 th Century; the largest numbers the Greeks and the Romans used were 106 whereas Indians used numbers as big as 1053.

9. According to the Gemmological Institute of America, up until 1896, India was the only source of diamonds to the world.

10. USA based IEEE has proved what has been a century-old suspicion amongst academics that the pioneer of wireless communication was Professor Jagdeesh Bose and not Marconi.

11. The earliest reservoir and dam for irrigation was built in Saurashtra.

12. Chess was invented in India .

13. Sushruta is the father of surgery. 2600 years ago he and health scientists of his time conducted surgeries like cesareans, cataract, fractures and urinary stones. Usage of anaesthesia was well known in ancient India .

14. When many cultures in the world were only nomadic forest dwellers over 5000 years ago, Indians established Harappan culture in Sindhu Valley ( Indus Valley Civilisation) .

Lord Nadaraja at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research)

The Large Hadron Collider and the Statue at CERN


Can there be a coincidence that the statue at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) is none other than Shiva Nataraja – the dancing Shiva, also known as the primordial destructive force of the universe? CERN is the international organization whose primary function is the oversight of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) which is located on the French/Swiss border. In this regard it has assumed oversight responsibility for the most advanced and sophisticated experimental laboratory in particle, theoretical and nuclear physics currently being conducted (not in total secrecy) throughout the world.
Is there reason to be conCERNed about the technology that is being employed at the LHC? Is there good reason to believe that the technology, and the underlying science, as well as the particle accelerator itself, are not up to the task at hand? What we are suggesting is that these physicists are playing with fire that they do not have the capacity to understand given the inherent limitations of their mindsets. More specifically, the very scientific paradigms upon which they have based their technology, especially the collider/accelerator, are totally inadequate to carry out such experimentation in a responsible manner. In other words these guys are trying to play in the major leagues with sticks and stones.
For those not steeped in Eastern spirituality, Lord Shiva is one of the three primary deities of the Hindu trinity and is known wherever his image is worshiped as the destroyer and transformer. What does the dancing Shiva (Nataraj) have to do with the Large Hadron Collider? Lets have a closer look.
“Nataraja or Nataraj: … The Lord (or King) of Dance is a depiction of the Hindu god Shiva as the cosmic dancer who performs his divine dance to destroy a weary universe and make preparations for god Brahma to start the process of creation. Nataraja is most often depicted through a statue. The dance of Shiva in Tillai, the traditional name for Chidambaram, forms the motif for all the depictions of Shiva as Nataraja. He is also known as “Sabesan” which splits as “Sabayil aadum eesan” in Tamil which means “The Lord who dances on the dais”. The form is present in most Shiva temples in South India, and is the main deity in the famous temple at Chidambaram.[1]

The sculpture is usually made in bronze, with Shiva dancing in an aureole of flames, lifting his left leg (and in rare cases, the right leg) and balancing over a demon or dwarf (Apasmara) who symbolizes ignorance. It is a well known sculptural symbol in India and popularly used as a symbol of Indian culture.[2]” (Per Wikipedia)

 
The picture above was taken in front of the CERN complex in Geneva, Switzerland. This statue of Shiva Nataraj is casting a shadow on the headquarters building. Is this a message “from the universe” about the destructive potential of a particle accelerator which collides opposing streams of protons and most recently lead ions) at the speed of light in an effort to create a mini big bang. We sincerely hope that the unique and strategic placement of this sacred statue will somehow represent an auspicious outcome of CERN’s endeavors, and will not prove to be an ill omen.
While we are cognizant of the scriptural understanding that the “Lord of the Dance” does perform both a creative and destructive cosmic dance, we would hope that the decision-makers at CERN are well aware of the potential for the later in light of the destructive forces it has already experienced in the course of the operation of the Large Hadron Collider.

Again, is there reason to be conCERNed about the technology that is being employed at the LHC? The physicists who work there are well aware that things are being done which are clearly pushing the edge of the envelope. Lawsuits have been filed, position papers have been written and formal requests to cease and desist have been made by some of the best and brightest among us. And yet the experiments continue unabated. Should we be conCERNed?!

Kubera - God of Wealth



Kubera is the god of wealth and son of Sage Vishrava who is the son of Lord Brahma. Kubera is widely known as the gods appointed guardian of the treasures of the gods and the nine special treasures of indefinite significance. But he is also the King of Yakshas and one of the Ashta-Dikpalas, representing the north direction.

When Kubera went to Kailasam once to have a darshan of Lord Shiva, he found Him with Goddess Parvathi. Kubera was stunned to see the splendour and beauty of Goddess Parvathi. He felt sorry that he had not worshipped such a fine goddess for so long and one of his eyes shut itself.

Goddess Parvathi got angry that Kubera was winking at Her, and looking at Her with evil intention. She made his eye burst. Kubera lost sight in one eye and was also cursed that he would always look ugly. Lord Kubera pleaded with Lord Siva to forgive him and explained that he had not seen the Goddess with any evil intention. Lord Siva left the choice to His consort. Goddess Parvathi forgave Kubera and let the eye grow back, but it was smaller than the other one.

Lord Balaji or Venkateswara at Thirupathi is said to have Borrowed money form Kubera for his marrige and he is still paying the interest on the loan amount.

So one eye of Kubera is smaller than the other. Kubera was rewarded by Lord Siva with the post of being one of the guards of the eight directions - the North. The Goddess made him the lord of wealth and material.



As the God of wealth and material, his responsibilities are to distribute them while creating wealth is with Goddess Lakshmi. Kubera is mostly painted with his family and seen showering gold coins and navaratnas.

Performing pooja to Lord Kubera is believed to enrich one's life. To have a wealthy and comfortable life, one has to perform Sri Lakshmi Kubera Pooja.

The auspicious date to worship Kubera is between October 15 and November 15 (Tamil month Aippasi). Thursday is the most auspicious day for Kubera. Anyone who wants to achieve his/her goal should worship Kubera for 48 days by chanting the Kubera mantra 108 times a day.


There are three main benefits of Kubera Sadhana...

1. When Lord Kubera is pleased then bless the person with material success and wealth.

2. The chances of coming into wealth unexpectedly and suddenly through lotteries etc increase.

3. No matter how much one spends money keeps flowing in provided the wealth is used for constructive purposes and not for destructive or antisocial activities

Thursdays and Friday are very auspicious for Kubera.

Astrology & Spirituality


Astrology is an ancient science and is the study of man's response to planetary stimuli. However, the science of astrology is too vast, both mathematically and philosophically, to be rightly grasped except by men of profound understanding. In ancient times, only the one with transcendental knowledge, a Sadguru, who could provide Brahm Vidya or Divine Knowledge, had the right to call himself an astrologer. An astrologer is called Jyotishi in Hindi. Jyoti + Ish means the Light of God; a person who becomes one with the divine light and reflects it through his being, he in essence, can be a Jyotishi, the one who can uncover the future. He not only can make us aware of our future but can also provide us Divine Knowledge, through which we can change our fate/destiny. Shri Yukteshwar explains that the natal chart can be rightly interpreted only by men of intuitive wisdom (Autobiography of a Yogi). Practice on the Divine Knowledge provided by the Sadguru helps a human being to change his fate or at least mitigate its effects rather than feeling helpless. As scriptures mention, “The fire of knowledge burns to ashes all reactions to material activities.” (Gita 4:37). “One overcomes both the pious and impious reactions of work.” (Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 4.4.22).

The usefulness of astrology in spirituality is only when it does not emphasise fate, due to the result of past good and bad actions, but arouses man's will to escape from his universal bondage. The human being is the supreme creation of God and has free will. He can remake his foot prints and can overcome any limitation by transferring his allegiance from the creation to the Creator. The more he realises his unity with the spirit, the less will he be dominated by matter. The realised soul cannot be regimented by the sun, moon, planets or the constellation of stars.

Astrology is not meant to lead to fatalism. Often, when an astrologer tells a man about his good fate, it produces inaction and the individual starts believing that he will be doled out good fortune without making any efforts. Similarly, when the astrologer tells him about imminent bad times, then that too, leads to negativity, disappointment, and anxiety. Out of fear and desperation, man starts performing various rituals and actions to overcome the effect. Moreover, we see that many frauds use this as a tool to manipulate people's minds, which leads to superstition, confusion and misguidance. A wise man, however, transforms his stars or fate by living in divine consciousness. This can be attained by prayer and deep meditation on the inner power or Soul– the only celestial being we should pledge allegiance to.

Art and Science of Slow Walk – by Vijayakumar Alagapan



The organs of your body have their sensory touches at the bottom of your foot. God created our body so well that of even this. He made us walk so that we will always be pressing this pressure points and thus keeping these organs activated at all times. But the walking should be slow (not brisk walk as advised by most of the modern doctors). With slow walking, one can control the slowly acting factor. To start with, it can be only be for 20 minutes. Using watch, you should walk for 10 minutes away from your home. Then you should walk back to your home. Gradually, the walking time should be increased to 45 minutes. The walking increases blood circulation in the knee and calf regions of the feet. According to engineering terminology, the heart is a pump with non-return valves.

The other place where non-return valves are located in the body are in the veins of the calfs. Technically speaking the non-return valve in each of the calf should be designated as a heart. The one heart in the chest is not under our control (yogis and yoginis may control them, but not ordinary people). But the other two “hearts” in the calfs can be controlled by you – it is through walking. Dr. Hiro G Badlani ( ? ) practiced opthmalogy for 40 years in Mumbai, India. After retiring he moved to the US to join his children. In his recent book, Hinduism: Path of the Ancient Wisdom he notes that:

They reminded man to strive to remain in connection and union with the source, the eternal God."

Rameshwaram
Situated on an island off the Sethu coast of Rameswaram in Ramanathpuram district, Tamil Nadu, is an important pilgrimage site for the followers of Hinduism. It is believed that a visit to this temple washes away one's sins and brings salvation (moksha). Being situated in Rameshwaram, the Ramanathaswamy Mandir is popularly known as the Rameshwaram Temple. The construction of this temple began in the 12th century; nonetheless it was completed much later, during the reign of various rulers. Rameshwaram Temple is famous for embracing one of the twelve Jyotirlingas (lingam of light) of Lord Shiva. The temple is also accredited for being the southern most 'jyotirlinga' of India.



Rameswaram'(Tamil:ராமேஸ்வரம்) is a town in Ramanathapuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on an island separated from mainland India by the Pamban channel and is less than 40 kilometers from the Jaffna Peninsula, Sri Lanka. Together with Kashi, it is considered to be one of the holiest places in India to Hindus. Hence, it is a bustling pilgrim centre.


It is situated in the Gulf of Mannar at the very tip of the Indian peninsula. According to legends, this is the place from where Lord Rama, built a bridge Ram Setu(also known as Adam's Bridge) across the sea to Lanka to rescue his consort Sita, from her abductor, Ravana. This is also the place where Rama worshipped Shiva to be absolved of the sin of killing Ravana, hence the name of Shiva, which became the name of the town - Rameswara ("lord of Rama"). Both the Vaishnavites and Shaivites visit this pilgrimage centre which is known as the Varanasi of the south.

Who invented steel?

The Rig Veda mentions “wootz” steel. Evidence for the manufacture of steel in ancient times is available in South India. The Arabians used to make a lot of money by selling Indian steel ingots to Europe. In 1746, the queen of Britain had sent a scientist named Benjamin Hauntsman to India to obtain the secret of making steel. Hauntsman stayed in India for some years, went back to Britain and submitted a report to the queen. Some historic records say that he did not write the main secret and he started his foundry in his native town. How the secret reached Henry Bessemer is unnecessary for us because his process was essentially the Indian crucible method of making steel. Another Indian contribution to industries in Europe was the process of casting. The frames of machine tools of that time were made of wood. Good mechanical devices like clocks did exist in Britain as early as 1300s. They were works of skilled crafts persons and were not products of precision machine tools. It was not until the structures of the machine tools were cast using Indian casting method and their other components were made of hard metals using Indian steel making method, the high precision machine tools could be made. The so called Industrial Revolution of Europe in the 1800s heavily depended on this.

The Moon and You

It is well known that the moon creates the tidal flow, and as beings who are made up of 75% water, it makes sense that we are also deeply affected by the moon. Learning how the moon affects us, how we can work with the moon is certainly well worth the effort, and developing a relationship with the moon is an extremely empowering and rewarding experience.

This article is dedicated to the moon and her influence on us and our lives.

Phases of the Moon

The moon cycles 13 times a year through phases, each of which influence us just like the pull of the tides.

It starts with the New Moon, which carries the energy of new beginnings, this is a great time to focus on stepping into something new.

Then the Full Moon, Signifies the time of the completion of a project, and finally returns to the New Moon again.

This entire cycle occurs over a period of 28 days, and yes, there is no mistaking it, this is the same as women's menstrual cycles, women tend to be much more connected to the moon than men.

The Waning of the moon is the period that runs between the Full Moon and the New Moon. It supports the energy of letting go, releasing, moving away from situations you've outgrown. It is a great time for working heavily on any releasement work such as clearing addictions and difficulties. It is also the perfect time to do a Spring Cleaning, going through your things and throwing out anything you no longer use, getting your hair cut, in fact, anything to do with getting rid of stuff.

The Waxing of the moon, is the period that runs between the New Moon and the Full Moon. The influence it carries during this time is wonderful for building, gathering or creating new things. The waxing moon is a great time to start new projects, sign up for a course, be creatively expressive, anything related to generating new aspects of life, or recreating the old.

Now of course this doesn't mean that you shouldn't let go of something during the waxing moon, or that you can't sign up for something new in the Waning moon. It does mean that if you have plans for this kind of work, including the tidal pull of the different moon phases in your plan, will support your actions in the same way that swimming with or against the tide makes your swim easier or more difficult.

One final important point to make about working with the Moon, is that it helps to realise that all things have the need for both generating and clearing. This means that both aspects of the lunar cycle can be used to your advantage for any particular issue or project. For example, if you are looking at having a huge clean-up at home, you could plan and design everything, including any furniture/room arrangment changes, during the waxing time. This is your time for creating new looks and new ways to live. You could then go on to do the cleaning up work during the Waning period. The perfect time to let go of the old, so that the new designs can take their place.

There is so much more about the effects of the moon on us as human beings. Learning to work with the moon and how she affects us can result in a much deeper understanding of ourselves and how much more power we have in our lives than perhaps we've realised. By simply becoming aware of the phases of the moon and the effects that it has on your life, you have made a great start to a new level of empowerment!
