Sexual Force - Swami Vivekananda, Lessons on Raja Yoga

Kundalini: Realise the soul not as matter, but as it is. We are thinking of the soul as body, but we must separate it from sense and thought. Then alone can we know we are immortal. Change implies the duality of cause and effect, and all that changes must be mortal. This proves that the body cannot be immortal, nor can the mind, because both are constantly changing. Only the unchangeable can be immortal, because there is nothing to act upon it.

We do not become it, we are it; but we have to clear away the veil of ignorance that hides the truth from us. The body is objectified thought. The "sun" and "moon" currents bring energy to all parts of the body. The surplus energy is stored at certain points (plexuses) along the spinal column commonly known as nerve centres.

These currents are not to be found in dead bodies and can only be traced in a healthy organism.
The Yogi has an advantage; for he is able not only to feel them, but actually to see them. They are luminous in his life, and so are the great nerve centres.

There is conscious as well as unconscious action. The Yogis possess a third kind, the superconscious, which in all countries and in all ages has been the source of all religious knowledge. The superconscious state makes no mistakes, but whereas the action of the instinct would be purely mechanical, the former is beyond consciousness.

It has been called inspiration, but the Yogi says, "This faculty is in every human being, and eventually all will enjoy it."

We must give a new direction to the "sun" and "moon" currents and open for them a new passage through the centre of the spinal cord. When we succeed in bringing the currents through this passage called "Sushumnâ", up to the brain, we are for the time being separated entirely from the body.

The nerve centre at the base of the spine near the sacrum is most important. It is the seat of the generative substance of the sexual energy and is symbolised by the Yogi as a triangle containing a tiny serpent coiled up in it. This sleeping serpent is called Kundalini, and to raise this Kundalini is the whole object of Raja-Yoga [Royal Science of Union].

The great sexual force, raised from animal action and sent upward to the great dynamo of the human system, the brain, and there stored up, becomes Ojas or spiritual force. All good thought, all prayer, resolves a part of that animal energy into Ojas and helps to give us spiritual power. This Ojas is the real man and in human beings alone is it possible for this storage of Ojas to be accomplished. One in whom the whole animal sex force has been transformed into Ojas is a god. He speaks with power, and his words regenerate the world.

The Yogi pictures this serpent as being slowly lifted from stage to stage until the highest, the pineal gland, is reached. No man or woman can be really spiritual until the sexual energy, the highest power possessed by man, has been converted into Ojas.

No force can be created; it can only be directed. Therefore we must learn to control the grand powers that are already in our hands and by will power make them spiritual instead of merely animal. Thus it is clearly seen that chastity is the corner-stone of all morality and of all religion. In Raja-Yoga especially, absolute chastity in thought, word, and deed is a sine qua non. The same laws apply to the married and the single. If one wastes the most potent forces of one's being, one cannot become spiritual.

Tantric-sexual energy, from Thirumantiram

-Siddhar Thirumulanathar

Thirumular, the reputed author of Thirumanthiram, the first and unique treatise in Tamil on yoga. Siddhar Thirumulanathar who gave us the famous dictum 'Anbe Shivam' (God is love), the author of Thirumanthiram was the disciple of Nandhinathar.

Siddhar Thirumulanathar is revered as the "Grandfather" by all the other Siddhars who attained the body of Light. His transforming wisdom written as Thirumandiram has guided innumerous seekers to enlightenment and beyond over several thousands of years.

Verse 844.
parillai nirillai pankayam onruNtu
tarillai verillai tamarai puttatu
urillai kaNum oLiyatu onruNtu
kilillai melillai keLviyir puve

There is a lotus
That neither land nor water knows;
No stalk, no root - yet the lotus has blossomed!
There was no root – yet there is a light!
Neither above nor below is a flower that no one has heard of.

Verse 283.
puNarcciyul ayilai mel anpu pola
uNarcciyuL anke o Tunkaval larkku
uNarcciyil latu kulavi ulavi
aNaittalum inpam atuvitu vame

Like the sweet love experienced in sexual intercourse,
So, in the Great Love, let yourself succumb to God;
Thus sublimed in Love, all your senses stilled,
Abounding in Bliss Supreme, That this becomes.

Verse 825.
Pucu vanavallam pucip pularttiya
Vaca narunkulal malaiyun cattik
Kayak kulali kalavi yorTunkalan
Tucit tuLaiyurat tunkatu pokame

Anointing her body with diverse unguents,
Bedecking her tresses with fragrant flowers,
Enjoy the damsel in erotic union;
If thou but know how to shoot
Prana breath through the sushumna,
Their enjoyment never ceases.

Verse 826.
pokattai yunnave pokatu vayuvu
mokattai veLLiyu miLum viyalattil
cutotta menmulai yaLunar cutanun
tatir kulaintu talaikaNTa vare

When they seek enjoyment
The breath stands still;
The full-breasted damsel and fervent male
Stand in union exalted;
As liquid silver and gold
Their erotic emissions
Commingle in rapture.

Verse 827.
kuNTanung kaNTiyung katalcey yokattu
maNTalang koNTiru palum veLirirkum
vaNTiyai merkoNTu vanir uruTTitat
taNToru kalun taLaratu ankame

In the sex-yoga that is practiced
By the male and female,
Upward they drive the coach of breath
Whose wheels are on the right and the left;
There they collect the waters of Heaven
And never do their limbs become tired.

Verse 828
ankap puNarcciyu makinra tattuva
mankattil vintu varukinra pokattup
pankap paTamar parikarit tuttammait
tankik koTukkat talaivanu mame

This is the meaning of that union:
When semen flows during sex
The yogi does not let it go,
But checks it
And retains it within
And then he becomes a master.

Verse 829.
talaivanu mayiTun tanvali nanan
talaivanu mayiTun tanvali pokan
talaivanu mayiTun tanvali yuLLe
talaivanu mayiTun tanvali ance

He becomes the master of jnana’
He becomes the master of enjoyment,
He becomes the master of himself
He becomes the master of the senses.

Verse 830.
Ancu kaTikaimel arang kaTikayil
Tuncuva tonrat tuNaivanpal
Nencu niraintatu vaykola tenratu
Pancu kaTikai pariyanka yokame

This is priyanka yoga
That lasts five ghaTikas [=two and half an hour];
Beyond, in the sixth,
The damsel sleeps in the arms of her lover
In blissful union
That fills the heart
And passes description.

Verse 841.
Minnitai yaLumin naLanaing kuTTattup
PonniTai vaTTattin uLLe pukappeytu
Tannotu tannait talaippeyya vallaren
maNNiTaip palluli valalu mame

If you can get to the Divine
In the Golden Circle within [the cranium]
And join there in union,
You may live on earth
A million trillion years.

Verse 842.
Vanka lirutalai vankalil vankiya
Vinka valikkum virakari varillai
Vinka valikkum virakari vaLarum
Onkiya tannai utampaNNi nare

Inhaling, exhaling, and retaining the breath-
None knows its techniques of control,
And those of skill who know it
Offer themselves entirely to the Lord.

Verse 843.
Utamarin tanke oruculip paTTar
katamarin tanke kapalang karukkum
itamarin tenrum iruppaL orutti
patamarin tummuLe parkkaTin tale

Knowing the way of self-oblation,
If they get into the Mystic Circle of the Divine,
They reach the True Way;
And their hair turns dark
In eternal youthfulness,
And the One Shakti will abide within.

Classical Yoga of Ancient Mystics
According to Patanjali Maharishi, the aim of every spiritual seekers is to attain Peace or Peranandam, by following the disciplines prescribed by our Siddantha or Vedantha Shastras. Just as a river eventually joins the ocean, every individual who has come from Total-Self (Almighty), must ultimately merge with the Total Self. Once this happens, there is no insecurity, unhappiness, worry and anxiety but total joy. One of the best means or sadhanas to achieve this is by practising Classical Yoga  of Ancient Mystics from both North India ( Vedanta Yoga ) and South India ( Siddhanta Yoga ).

Misconceptions about Yoga
The prevalent misconception about Yoga is that it takes an individual deep into the sub-conscious, which ultimately leads to moksha or self realization. This is a wrong concept. One must understand that Yoga only qualifies a person to study the scriptures, which leads one to moksha. Yoga is only a pre-requisite that helps the spiritual seekers to have healthy sense organs, a subtle mind and sharp intellect, so that the study of Vedanta, Siddhanta or other scriptures is a walk over or an easy task. Therefore, it should be understood that Yoga is only a technique to discipline the body-mind complex and means to attain self knowledge through a competent teacher.

What we teach in our weekly class:
Yoga (1hour) + Mystical Science (1hour)

Thoppukaranam (alias) Super Brain Yoga

India, the land of billion yogi's is rich in Spiritual and ancient science. Our Spiritual identity reflects in our tradition and culture of our country."India will be the Guru of the world" so said Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo in the early decades of the 20th century. That was the time when India was totally subjugated to the British and nobody could dare to think of Indias superiority in any field. Even after 40 years of Independence, many Indians continued to think of India in inferior terms. That situation has changed and now India is emerging as a knowledge power.

Thoppukaranam is a traditional practice in Indian Schools, accepted from Gurukula system of education to make the child sit and stand catching both the ears with hands crossing each other symbolising punishment for lethargy, laziness and not memorizing or grasping and to improve brain power etc. Though it has degenerated into a punishment, the reason for giving such punishments were exactly to improve the brain power of the child. Most people do it infront of idol of Ganesha. There it is more than improving the brain power, it is a request to enlighten. Science only reinvents.
A simple devotional action performed by Hindus in front of Lord Ganesha or Ganapathi from time immemorial is now being researched and enthusiastically promoted and registered in the West as Super Brain Yoga.

There are many ways to boost the brain power through yoga and other techniques like ears piercing which can stimulate pituitary gland.

Knowledge of the ancient Indian mystics and the seen is the great message of Ganapathi "Ga" means Buddhi (intelligence). 'Na' means Vijnaana (wisdom). 'Pathi'means master. So, Ganapathi is the master of all knowledge, intelligence and wisdom. There is also another significant meaning for the word, that He is the Leader of all the Ganaas who are celestial. He is also called Vinaayaka, which term means that he is one who has no master above Him. He is the Supreme master. He is beyond the mindless stare. One who has stilled the mind cannot have any master.

As per the medical research and subsequent report, doing these special kind of situps while holding the opposite earlobes help stimulate brain power and remember things better.

Dr. Eric Robins, a medical doctor in Los Angeles, calls it “a fast, simple, drug-free method of increasing mental energy” and prescribes it for his patients. He speaks of one student who raised his grades from C’s to A’s in the space of one semester.

Denise Peak, a high-school teacher of students with learning disabilities, including autism and Aspergers Syndrome, has had very encouraging results. She says, “I think this might be the key to help unlock these children.”

Occupational therapist Raina Koturba says the effect on one autistic seven-year-old boy was immediate and dramatic. Before learning the exercise, the boy had frequent episodes of violence, including kicking, biting, punching, and head-butting; “but since he started the exercise, he has not had one outburst.”

Yale neurobiology researcher Dr. Eugenius Yang, Jr. says the practice stimulates neural pathways in the brain by activating acupuncture points on the earlobes–and synchronizes the right and left hemispheres of the brain, as demonstrated by EEG (electroencephalograph) scans. “I do it every day,” he said.
